With elections in the US only weeks away, many schools are struggling with how (or even if) they should approach this year’s elections, especially with what has been an egregiously uncivil national campaign.

Teachers who are choosing to engage their students with the elections are trying a variety of approaches.

What’s clear is that many teachers are hyper-aware of the need for civil discourse and critical thinking.

Voting, elections, and democracy are a core part of who we are as citizens, and teaching young people to become compassionate, thoughtful, active citizens is essential to their well-being and the health of our society.
